Even More Pieces of Drawing Advice that have Stuck with me Over the Years

1. If it works as a thumbnail, it will likely work as a full piece.

2. A good image should read well as a postage stamp and as a billboard.

3. It all comes back to drawing, no matter the medium.

4. Most art can be parsed in terms of lines/texture, shapes, and forms.

5. Start with the big shapes first, then working gradually down to the details.

6. Confident movements produce confident marks.

7. Always have a focal point.

8. Letting a piece rest for a few months is sometimes more powerful than powering through in a matter of days or weeks.

9. Ellipses are circles in perspective.

10. You don’t have to strive to be a professional artist, even if your favorite artists are. Getting to work solely on your own art is joy enough.
